5 to 9 every Wednesday at Legal Sea Foods – limited time deal!

I mean, sipping fine wine at half-price with a view of the river is tantalizing enough. But you can also choose from delicious seafood and select other options, as well as enjoying exceptional service. A limited time only, guys, so make a date with a friend now. Wine Down Wednesdays at Legal Sea Foods, 315 N. Dearborn.

By the way, we’re not talking about three or four selected bottles. The deal includes every single bottle on their impressive list of already reasonably priced bottles (no deal on glasses). And what is wine, after all, without food? I was struck by the friendliness and efficiency of our server, Valenciana, who graciously explained much of the menu when I arrived, and then again when my friend arrived.

The full menu features, as you would expect, much seafood and a few meat choices. The lobsters and mussels and oysters, each type served two different ways, along with other entrées, include the house specialty crab cake. With the generous selection of sides, the options are all one could wish for.

“Wine Down Wednesdays are our way of turning the middle of the week into something special. Great seafood deserves great wine – and with half-off bottles, guests have the perfect excuse to explore and indulge in something new. It’s our new favorite Wednesday tradition.” — Chef Tyler Lucier, Culinary Partner, Legal Sea Foods Chicago

Even if it’s too chilly to eat out on the generous patio, the dining space, down a few steps from street level in Marina city, is lined with windows so you can see at least part of the river from almost any seat. Our lively and helpful server told us there’s a whole second floor above the space that’s open only on weekends, with seating a little higher above the riverfront.

We enjoyed our food a lot. The crab cake came with a small side salad, crisp and green and glistening with a light citrusy dressing. Especially fun were the sea cones – rich, delicious and delicate puff pastry, shaped into cones and stuffed with your choice of seafood options, from oysters to lobster. I’m smiling, just thinking about it.

Our favorites included the steamed lobster, the grilled trout, and the unique French fries – kind of soft but with crispy ends and edges. Leftovers delicious even the next day heated slowly in a dry skillet.

Go on. Hurry down to a Wine Down Wednesday while the weather’s still sunny and nice – and this deal is still on.
